Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a bail bond?

A bail bond is best compared to an insurance policy, which someone will purchase to keep him out of jail while going through fighting a court case. You can obtain a bail bond to achieve immediate release from custody and freely fight your court case rather than behind bars. Bail is a right given to us by the constitution, and it will always serve the purpose of "Innocent till proven guilty".

  • How do I obtain a bail bond?

In the State of California, you can only obtain a bail bond through a state licensed bail bonds agent. Dealing with bail agents can differ from one to another as each bail agent will go through their own process of underwriting a bond and approving it. However, we happen to provide bail bonds to people faster and quicker than anyone else in the industry. Each of our agents is capable of approving a bond in less than 10 minutes.

  • How much does a bail bond cost?

In the State of California, the cost of a bail bond is set at 10% of the bail amount assigned to the defendant by the arresting agency. However, in some cases it can possibly cost less than the state mandated 10% if the bail agent's insurance contract allows for it.

  • Is collateral always needed?

In general, collateral is needed, as we provide the court system with the amount needed to get your loved ones out of jail, though at Bakersfield Bail Guy, we know that collateral is not always available, so we beyond collateral to help people bail out of jail. We do look at different factors before enforcing collateral. We take in consideration the credibility of the person signing responsibility for the defendant, and also we take the nature of the charges in consideration as well.

  • When is collateral returned?

Collateral is returned within three business days of providing proof of bond exoneration. Proof of exoneration can be obtained through the clerk at the court house. The clerk will provide upon request an "exoneration slip" so the defendant can furnish to us in order to receive collateral back.

  • Is the premium refundable?

As soon as a bail agent furnishes a bond to a jail, the agency will immediately assume full financial responsibility for the full amount of the bail. The bail bond is valid for the life of the case and will keep the defendant out of jail on the current charges until a verdict is reached. In return, the bail bond premium is not a refundable item.
